The outfoxed torrent that I'm hosting on Torrentocracy just passed the 1 Terabyte of total data transfer mark. Put another way, that's over 1,000 Gigabytes of traffic or yet another way, over 1,000,000 Megabytes of traffic. Simply put, this is much more bandwidth than one could reasonably afford and instead its all been contributed by the downloaders of Outfoxed through the magic of bit torrent. The future of the independent media distributor is a bright one.

What sort of timeframe was it moved over?

A hosted server that can serve 1TB/month is around $100USD - while it's a reasonably high monthly outlay, it's not totally unreasonable - especially if shared amongst a few highly interested people.

On the other hand, it's awesome to be able to share such a large file with a small personal cost! It's not a matter of "reasonably affordable", as much as it's "downright cheap".

It doesn't have to be done by someone hugely interested, just someone who wants to. Even if you don't have a site yourself you can always contribute seeds...

Realistically, 100$ a month in download traffic CAN be cost prohibitive. The point here is that BitTorrent allows someone to publish 1TB for a hell of a lot less than that.
